5 Tips to Enjoy the Moments in Life

Today I tried something different on Facebook. I let everyone know what the #HealthyChallenge of the day was. Did you see it?

“Good Morning! I’m going to post about this #HealthyChallenge tomorrow but I want you to join me today while I’m doing it.
Today’s Challenge is to enjoy the moments in your day. How so? If you go through your day as a zombie (because it’s so routine…work, eat, sleep) find the moments that are beautiful, peaceful and make you happy. They really are there!
After you enjoy it, share your moment on Instagram, or leave me a comment below of what you did! Are you up for the challenge?”

Let’s be honest, life is amazing but sometimes you have to make it amazing. I know some people who literally get ready for work, work, eat, come home, eat and sleep. Where the heck is the personal enjoyment in that? I could be wrong, but it seems to me, there is WAY more to life than that.

What about slowing down and looking at the beauty around you? Like the way Sara laughed, Tony smiled, or Bob always welcomes you when you step into the office. The girl who wished you a good day as she handed you a coffee, or the gentleman who opened the door for you. It’s the small things that matter and should be paid special attention to. When you focus on the positive, the good, the light around you, it shines brighter back into your life. It’s there.

Here’s my motto: Live healthy and strong, one step at a time

So what beauty surrounded you today?

Here are my three moments that I particularly enjoyed today:

My 4 year old playing in the snow. I watched as he became an inch worm through the ground. He looked up at the sun, laying on his back and kept pushing himself all around the yard. It made me laugh to see how much delight this was for him.

My daughter as she concentrated on our science experiment today. I loved watching as she studied the colors and combined them to create new colors. Watching her discover things through her eyes, has always amazed me.

Finally, my moment of the day, running.

I had another thirty minute run today and clocked in 5 seconds earlier than my previous run. It was definitely my moment to enjoy.

This is great, but how do I do this? Glad you asked! Here are 5 tips to enjoy the moments in life:

  • Sit back and become a watcher. This can be quite a skill to master, however once achieved, you can view life with a new outlook. Try not to be involved in the situation but to sit back with stillness and view what is unfolding.
  • Show gratitude. When you discover the moments of kindness, happiness, laughter, appreciation, return the gesture. It could be as simple as saying, “thank you” to someone who helped you or did something for you. When you return a kindness, it will fill your heart too, making you embrace that moment.
  • Count on Positive Pam. Our brains usually push Negative Nancy to the front of the scene, keep her away! Instead of counting the negative things that happened to us in a day, count the positive ones.
  • Unplug. If you really want to experience life, then simply unplug the media sources. Have a meaningful relationship with the person in front of you. It’s hard to fully engage with someone while typing or talk to the person next to you, while listening on the phone.
  • Stop multitasking and appreciate the task. This is easier said than done when your boss is handing you a list of tasks to complete, but if you slow down and take the time to make most of those moments, you will see a different outcome. Perhaps enjoying the responsibility of each task given to you or putting more effort into a project will help you enjoy the moment instead of doing a mediocre job.

You only live once, so we all should make the best of it. How do you choose to spend your day?
