My son, who is 4 years old, is just ecstatic that Christmas is right around the corner. He asks daily what month it is and when Santa will arrive. I tell him when it snows in short.
On our weekly library journey, I picked up a book about snow:
This charming book tells how the trees are bare, the ground is empty and of course, the snow that is coming.
I also purchased some speedy snow prior to us learning about the snow. (Purchased from Lakeshore Learning.)
I have to admit, I was tickled inside to get this stuff out and see what it was all about! I do mean tickled. How cool is snow in a container. Uhm, awesome!
The question is, does it work?
We followed the directions by adding the snow to water – 2tsp.
We watched it explode and get bigger and bigger. Then…
It magically turned into snow!
The texture was spot on perfect. It felt like small, light and airy snowflakes.
They tried squishing it into snowballs…
but it didn’t work.
So we added more mixture and water to the current bowl and it turned out thicker. More like a gel if you could imagine.
Then, things got a little crazy. Little Miss Lady wanted to add paint to hers, so we did.
Can you imagine the result?
The kids and I had a blast with our snow. Next time (and when it gets a little bit colder), I’m going to make a BIG bucket so we can throw it at each other and really play.
If you stick with the measurements it calls for, it really does make the perfect texture for snow. If you add more water or powder, then you’re looking at a gel consistency.
Still, both ways are lots of fun to play with.
Have you played with snow in the sun?
