Mind Games, Goals and Playlists: training #halfmarathon

I have decided that I have a really strong love/hate relationship with running. I hate to start, I love to finish. As soon as I start, I just want to finish. My legs hurt the most the first five minutes of running after that it’s all mind games. I watch the clock and think, “You can run until you reach .25 miles, then you can walk it’s okay.” Sometimes, I think I give myself too much slack. How can I run a speed of 4.3 but the last half mile boost it up to 4.8? How can I become so determined to reach that days goal, that I just go?

I love running because of my conflicting mind as well. I love the challenge. Goals are something that I always make and love to achieve, no matter how small the task may be. It gives me something to look forward to. So when I say I’m going to do something and set a goal in my mind, then I must accomplish what that is.

I wanted to give you a gift, a picture of my feet to kn0w that I am really running 🙂

I feel like it’s now genuine 🙂

I did learn a few things while running tonight though:

1. Don’t take off a shirt while running full speed on treadmill. Big no, no. I almost ran off the side!

2. A lot of my songs on my playlists have the word, “run” in them….let me show you:

  • Runaway Train, Soul Asylum
  • Light On, David Cook
  • Pictures of You, The Cure

Maybe I just noticed it because I was actually listening and well, running!

When I was in college, I was lucky enough to have Doug Mattingly as my Music Appreciation teacher. Not only was he a teacher but also had a few albums as well.

I love the song, Get it Started from his album Building a Monastery for a few reasons….

1. I love to shout, “Heaven help me” while I’m running because the truth is, I need help.

2. He also shares the word “run” as in, “So don’t you run away from here.” Which in return, makes me run harder.

3. Words such as “nothing left to fear” and “gonna get it started” help me push through my mind games.

You can listen to his music by clicking here.

Of course, my favorite way to end a run is listening to…drum roll….

Remember, the 7 minutes warm up/warm down period too. I’m feeling pretty good. This has been a fabulous week.
