Training with Jeff Galloway 5k/10k

I’ve received two emails in the past week asking me what my running plan is. First, I love receiving emails and comments, it’s almost like someone is answering my one-sided conversation 😉 Keep them coming!

Okay, so hubby gave me one awesome running book. He said, “I’m sorry this isn’t the one you wanted, but here ya go.” It was perfect because honestly, I don’t remember what I wanted? Anyways…

Please let me introduce you to Jeff Galloway, my mentor. Of course, he doesn’t know me but I will pretend like that’s not a fact.

Jeff has been titled America’s Coach and with good reason. He has ran for over fifty years, thirty of them without injury. He is the mack daddy of running in my opinion.

I can brag about this man, but his website does it a lot better, check it out: http://www.jeffgalloway.com/about/

So when hubby picked up his book, Jeff Galloway 5k/10k Running, I knew I was hooked.

Galloway's 5k/10k Running

Yes, there is a Run-Walk-Run method, which I love and use.

I’ve been training with Jeff for a good two weeks now. Yes, I’m going PRO baby! hahaha. Knock on wood, I haven’t injured myself at all with the Run-Walk-Run method and I feel pretty dang good. To be honest, it is such a relief knowing I can walk and not run the whole time!

My personal goal is to finish a 10k this year. If I’m really feeling good, I’m going to hit a half-marathon by the end of the year.

Most runners have times they want to break, I don’t. I just want to see the finish line. Jeff not only has a 10k schedule for people with timed goals but also for people like me who just want to cross! I love that! This also gives me the “start” to a new goal. Like perhaps next time training to beat my 10k goal, timed. We’ll shall see!

Not up for a 10k yet? No fret. He has schedules for 5k as well.  Better yet, he gives them free online:

And please let me just linger on the thought of this…Jeff offers a Beach Retreat Weekend in Florida. How my heart would sing to be able to attend this! And even though I can’t, doesn’t mean you can’t…check it out

As I mentioned, Jeff and I don’t know each other. I’m the silent stalker type…okay, that was just creepy.

I really enjoy reading all his knowledge and I hope to interview him one day. (Yup, still dreaming).

What plan are you using to train? I would love to know!

Hi Amber! I’m on your SITS Tribe and wanted to leave you a comment for Monday’s “Blog Day” challenge! I love the Galloway method and have been using it in my training for a few months now and have been pretty successful. I look forward to getting to know you better through your blog. There’s a product out that sets up the run/walk method for you – feel free to visit my blog to read about it at: http://14-in-2014.com/2013/12/the-gymboss-story-continued/.

I am a huge Jeff Galloway fan, I met him a few times at some running events. He is very kind. The only thing I now dislike about his plan is that I see so many people using it and never giving the runners behind them a heads up that they will start walking. People just stop all of a sudden. At Disney World marathon a few weeks ago people just started raising their hand and that was the signal that they were about to stop. It worked out pretty well.
