Giddy Up 5k and training schedule for half marathon #halfmarathon

While you were all snoozing in this Sunday morning (or perhaps you weren’t.. 🙁 shucks!!) I was out running a morning 5k! Yes, I have signed up for races all throughout the months to make sure I am ready for this half marathon that I’m so eagerly awaiting! Woo hoo!

Okay then…

006

I rocked the pony tails because that was the only thing I had for our GIDDY UP event. I should have planned earlier or took notes on “how to dress like a cowgirl.” It’s just not my thing. But I will admit, I have done some country line dancing before. Does that count?

I did have one of my favorite running girls. We make an awesome Pink Sole Sisters team!

The race was timed but not chipped so how am I to really determine my progress? Yeah…I’m not sure. (No Garmin yet…sniff, sniff) So I took a photo to count the number of people divided by the sound of feet passing through prior to me…

011

Okay, maybe not but I definitely wasn’t in the front. This girl didn’t want to get trampled on!

As I’m in mid jog, I decided to take a photo to make sure you saw what I saw…

012

That was pretty much it. I decided it might not be such a good idea after all 😉 (Wobble, wobble…shake shake shake!)

Like every race, I learn a few more things. Here are some more lessons:

  1. Carrying a full 16 oz. bottle, a whole key chain set, cell phone and camera around my waist only causes problems. It kept going up and I kept holding it down. Buying new belt next time.
  2. I really enjoyed the silence and thoughts in my head. This means, I ended up carrying my iPod too.
  3. Stop worrying about what people think. The guy cheering on his patio doesn’t really care if I walk in front of him for a few seconds…I don’t need to “pretend” jog until I think he can’t see me. Seriously, who was that guy anyway? I don’t know either.

In the end, I actually impressed myself without trying. I beat my previous time!

013

The EMS guy asked if I was okay. This makes me giggle. Did I look a little heated perhaps?

Best time thus far: 39:08. Then you have to think about all the people in the starting line I had to minus…so I’m giving myself some lead way with 38 minutes and some odd seconds. Not a record, I hear ya. Your grandmother can run faster than me….okay, now you’re going to far, but so far, it’s my best.

And, let me just say, AND I also did a 20 minute kick boxing workout later that night. Woot! Woot!

This week is going to be a blast. More challenges on the way. Less than three weeks, I’m running my first 10k! Let’s run down the training schedule shall we?
