Slow Food Baltimore Ice Cream Social

A few weeks ago, I talked about Slow Food Baltimore hosting an ice cream social at the Prigel Family Creamery. I have to tell you, the kids did not let me forget it one bit! (Click here to read my volunteering post!) I heard, “Is it ice cream day?” Over and over. Perhaps it was me reminding them too, after all, I was just as excited!

There is really nothing more beautiful to me than flat land with cows. Seriously. I should have been raised on a farm. Country life just seems right for me.

So when I pulled up to the family creamery, I was in awe at the beauty surrounding it.

I didn’t photoshop the picture, it really was just that beautiful.

We started our tour outside with the cows….

(because that just makes sense right?)

and finished inside….

The tour was quite informative and very interesting. I wanted to get all the details but I had two kids clinging to me whispering…”Can we have ice cream now?” Then they said, “We’re shy!” Really? Really? Since when? I think they secretly plot ways to throw me off my mama game sometimes. They must. The 4 year old probably takes my 2 year old and says, “Hey…I know. This would be great. How about I grab Mama’s leg and you keep asking to be picked up and we’ll see how she reacts.” Come on, that has to be it!

After the tour, we had the best part…

ICE CREAM!

With a menu like that, it’s hard to choose your flavor. It really is. So many flavors looked so tempting but the kids went with the traditional chocolate and vanilla.

I had an amazingly delicious, wanted-to-suck my straw in milkshake of the month.

My son doesn’t even like ice cream but licked every drop in his cup. I was quite impressed.

I really loved Prigel Family Creamery ice cream but I also really love the principals and beliefs they have.

That’s right LOCAL, FAMILY, FRESH.

Does it get better than that?

Here is their mission:

Prigel Family creamery will process milk from  Bellevale Farm into fresh, nutrient dense dairy foods from cows that graze on grass grown from organically balanced soils. We are committed to our community, to integrity in our stewardship of the land, and to humane treatment of our animals, we acknowledge our dependence on God to provide and sustain our farm to make it economically viable for future  generations.

BIG SHOUT OUT to Slow Food Baltimore for such a great event!

(Thank you Slow Food Baltimore for providing photo!)

After a great Ice Cream Social, I had to transition back to my reality.

I knew it was coming, I had to run today.

Yup, day 4 training says 2 miles run/walk.

So at 9pm, I grabbed my shoes and thought “Tomorrow is rest day, go get ’em tiger.” So I ran and walked and ran and walked 3.25 miles!

I was really proud of myself because my body is hurting! The weights that made me  feel superheroish the day before (click here) finally caught up to my body and not my mind! I know I only had to run/walk 2 miles but once I get going, it feels too good to stop! Odd. Who knew I would run?

Looking forward to rest tomorrow and some delicious grub 🙂
