Box Tops for Education

Okay Mom’s let’s talk about those little “cash” cut-outs on certain cereal boxes, food boxes and even some produce! I love the program Box Tops for Education. It’s kind of like cutting coupons to save on the grocery bills but it’s for a bigger cause, like a thousand kids at your child’s school! In 1996, General Mills launched the Box Tops for Education program in California on selective cereals. Two years later, 30,000 schools participated and by 2004 over 80,000 schools. Fast forward to 2010 and Box Tops celebrates $320 million earned by schools and 2011, $59 million earned in just the 2010-2011 school year alone! What an incredible accomplishment!

What does this mean for you mom? Visit their website at http://www.boxtops4education.com/Default.aspx and sign up to start supporting your child’s school. Track your cash for your school and then see how much the school has at the end of the year! Your school will receive supplies that they need. The site will even show you easy ways to earn and even Box Top product AND they are good for a few years. Since my kids are not in school yet, I’ve been cutting them off of everything (I even found some cauliflower with it on the plastic) and giving them to her. One of the expiration dates was 2015…..by then, my kids will be in school.

You might look at a box and say, ugh…what a pain! But think of it this way, the money would otherwise end up in your trashcan where it won’t benefit anyone! To make a system for the Box Top’s, have a pair of scissors (maybe in your kitchen drawer?) but somewhere easily for you to grab them, cut out the box top and then put it in a plastic snack bag and hang that on the side of your fridge where nobody will see you new decor! You can even collect them throughout the summer since the expiration date is still years to come! Even if you don’t have a kids then give to your neighbor who does have kids! Why would you throw away cash? You wouldn’t! So don’t!

Do the kids a favor, help your school, cut the coupons. Obnoxious maybe, but a good cause, YES!
